Life Is Too Short To Live Without Color

I was brought up to be very frugal financially. Part of that is picking colors that wear well. Because of this, I never bought anything white, or red, peach etc. Accessories like a purse or shoes were best in black or brown because they had less chance of being stained or showing dirt and those colors go with everything. While I completely agree with the logic of this reasoning, I left that thought process behind a few years ago. (The color choices- not the frugality).

“Celebrate the colors in the world!”

Life is too short to always be subjected to browns and black with navy thrown in occasionally. We should celebrate the colors in our world. My current purse is salmon and I receive compliments on it all the time. The one before this was a beautiful turquoise that I loved. It made me happy every time I looked at it.

Fashion isn’t really my thing. It isn’t high on my list of priorities. I enjoy looking nice but I don’t spend hours agonizing over it.

The turquoise purse is what changed my mindset about colors. This purse made me happy EVERY time I looked at it. Yes, maybe it was more likely to show dirt, but it was a small price to pay for something that would brighten up my day multiple times a day.

The Good Lord gave us beautiful colors in the world around us. I don’t think for a second that he wants us to only surround ourselves with the most durable colors, or the ones that will coordinate with the most things. There is nothing wrong with that if that’s what you want to do. But we don’t have to limit ourselves. I choose to surround myself with color. God made beautiful colors. We should enjoy them, celebrate them, appreciate them for the wonderful gift that they are! I would even venture to say that if we don’t, we aren’t giving God the thanks he deserves for creating this exquisite world.

Thank you, God, for the color to brighten our world!

  1. Yes I love colors. My favorites have changed over the year. I know that purple means royalty. Presently my favorite color is orange. Read your previous article that your husband is re-enlisting. Thank him for his service. My husband is a Viet Nam Veteran.

    1. Thank you. I would say my colors have evolved over the years too. What’s interesting is that my daughter likes the same colors and color combos that I did at her age.

  2. Colors wake us up! Nothing stands out more, and I so admire women who go bold. I’m more of a gray and brown girl myself, but I always think it looks nice on other people. I do accessorize in other ways I suppose; purses and notebooks galore. LOL
