My Favorite Things- Book Reviews

Book reviews?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that one of my favorite things about writing is that I have writer friends who write books and they need people to tell other people about their books. So that means lots of excellent reading material for me! I’m going to share with you 3 new books- Skedaddle, Tune It Out, and The Price of Admission. These book reviews are extremely overdue. But September was one heck of a month and I got behind.

So without further ado, here are the books!

The book review up first-

Skedaddle by Jacqueline Leigh Illustrated by Erica Wilson

This is a children’s book due out December 1st 2020 and it’s available for preorder at the link above. Jacqueline Leigh is the author of three children’s books and this isn’t Erica Wilson’s first foray into illustrating.

The story begins with a scenario that as parents, we are all familiar with. . . kids and going to bed. There’s a noise that keeps happening and Nellie can’t sleep and she goes to investigate. She discovers what it is, and goes back to bed but she just can’t go to sleep. Everyone else in the house asleep but she just can’t sleep due to the noise. She finds a solution that brings surprising consequences. My favorite part of the book is at the very end, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. The book is delightfully illustrated and the story is surprising, fun, and well written. It’s also written in a manner that would be a fabulous fanciful starting place for parents to talk to their kids about issues sleeping. It would make a great Christmas present for a little one or a whenever book to cuddle up with.

The book review up next-

Tune It Out by Jamie Sumner

Jamie is a friend and a favorite author. But I’m not just saying that because we are friends. Her books are really well worth reading because you will fall in love with the characters, you can read my other reviews of some of her books here, and here. This book is currently for sale at anywhere books are sold, or click on the link above. Watch for her next book coming soon!

This latest book is a middle grade book about a young girl named Lou. Lou has a gift of a beautiful voice and loves to sing, but she struggles with crowds and noises due to a sensory processing disorder. She could have her big break into the music business, but is that really what she wants? Lou also finds herself living out of a pickup truck with her mother in the mountains with winter coming. She hasn’t been to school in a long time. But events are about to change things for Lou.

Jamie’s first middle grade book Roll With It won copious awards, and it was well deserved. But Tune It Out? In my opinion, this story is even better. Add this to your Christmas shopping list for your tween today!

Looking for a book to read yourself?

And the book review that is last but not least-

The Price of Admission: Embracing a Life of Grief and Joy by Liz Petrone

This is Liz’s first book but she has been writing articles and blog posts for a long time and I have loved everything I have ever read that was written by her. She’s humorous- Naming your hemorrhoids anyone? She is real- Talking about her own suicide attempt and her mother’s suicide and how she has lived through it. But she isn’t speaking from a place of pain nor does she preach. This book is a memoir about her life, her journey through depression, anxiety, suicide attempt, an eating disorder. She lifts the veil and lets you in to see the real Liz. And lifts you up and helps you see that you can get through your hard too. Seriously, go buy Liz’s book. You won’t regret it.

That wraps up the book reviews for today. I hope you enjoy these books as much as I did. If you are an author or illustrator and would like me to review your book, drop me a line.
