Leave Out The Politics And Ask, “What Would Jesus Do?”

What would Jesus do?

Do you remember this acronym made popular in the ’90s and its meaning? What Would Jesus Do? It was everywhere. It was on everything.

It’s time for a resurgence of popularity.

If we truly are going to call ourselves Christians and seek to follow Christ, shouldn’t we be asking ourselves, “What Would Jesus Do?”

I’m spending time thinking about my political positions. I think it’s important to take a good look and examine them from time to time so that I take into account any new knowledge I’ve gained and events that have transpired.

Today’s thought?

The Southwest Border Wall.

I’ve never been a supporter of the wall. I believe it was a waste of money. Also, I don’t want my country to be equated with China and Germany and their walls. I do however support the rule of law and feel that people coming into our country illegally isn’t going to be best for them or for us.

However, if we were to leave politics, government, terrorists, and everything else out of the equation and just ask, WWJD? What do you think he would say about the men, women, and children waiting at the borders of our land starving to come in? Most of these people, looking by and large, for a safe place to live where they can earn enough money to support their families is largely all they want. Simply a chance to survive. Many had no desire to leave their homes. They loved their country, their neighbors, and family. Given a reasonable choice, it’s likely many would choose to stay.

But the keyword is reasonable. Many of these people are coming from lands where they are escaping with their lives, and only their lives from wars, and drug cartels. They cannot go back. Many have left to come here because the economy of their countries doesn’t provide enough for them no matter how hard, or how willing they are to work causing their families to starve.

From what I have read of the life of Jesus, from learning to talk to him and hear his answers to my prayers. I’m convinced that Christ would have said to all of those people, “Follow me. Let me feed you, and find a place for you.”

Land borders wouldn’t matter to him.

The fact that these people are considered illegal within our country, I don’t think would be top of the list of any of his concerns for these people.

His people.

Because he lays claim to all of us. All of us are his brothers and sisters regardless of race, color, country, or creed.

Some are concerned about these people coming in and taking our jobs or worried about terrorists crossing our borders. Here’s the thing though, the more people there are, the more jobs are needed because demand increases. After living in the DC area during 9/11, I understand the desperate need to want to protect against attacks. I had friends in the Pentagon and the White House that day.

But if I ask myself, “What would Jesus do? Would he be more worried about the terrorists or the people who are hungry and lost? I think you would agree with me, that his example shows he’d be helping the hungry and lost.

I am for the rule of law and people going through the appropriate processes to come into this country. But something is wrong if you have people dying to get in.

Maybe, we need to take a new look at the process and make some changes.

Maybe, we need to use some of our funding for other countries to give them basic necessities while they wait for their turn to be accepted or rejected.

Maybe, we need to ask what kind of help they need back in their own countries and see if our government aid would be put to good use helping stabilize their countries.

Maybe, we need to ask WWJD?
