Sunshine Blogger Award and My Favorite Things

I was nominated last week by Mrs. A at Hooks and Dragons blog for the Sunshine Blogger Award. This award is for bloggers to give a shout out to their favorite bloggers and answer some questions about themselves. Mrs. A lives in the UK so some of her questions come from one of my favorite countries. I’m delighted that someone thought enough of my blog to nominate me as one of their favorite bloggers.

Here are Mrs. A’s Questions For The Sunshine Blogger Award and My Answers

1) What are your plans for the weekend? NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month is getting ready to kick off next month. In preparation, I’m probably going to be attending a “Plotting Party” to work on plotting out a novel I have an idea for. As someone who doesn’t usually plot my pathways out, this is a new step for me.

Church attendance is also on the schedule for this weekend, a nap or two, some book reading and writing.

2) You’ve been selected to cook a 5-course banquet for Prince Harry’s wedding anniversary. What’s on your menu? (They must be dishes you can actually cook yourself) Um, in an alternate life I’d love to be a baker/caterer. So for Prince Harry. . .

1- Shrimp Dip, with fresh baguettes, cucumber sandwiches with jalapeno hummus,

2- (Does salad come before soup? I can’t remember?) Green salad with grapefruit wedges, pine nuts, aged Romano cheese, drizzled with champagne salad dressing.

3- Hm… this is the hard one. I would want a light soup and most of the soups I make are pretty hearty. So why not change it up and instead have sorbet to cleanse the pallet.

4- Pork Loin medallions covered in maple and apple cider, with grilled asparagus sprigs, and fresh fruit.

5- For dessert? It’s fall at the moment (even though his anniversary isn’t in the fall), and I’m thinking of my favorite Carmel Apple Cheesecake.

3)  Describe your ideal Christmas day. My ideal any day would include sleeping in. As I have children, that isn’t happening any time soon.

In our family, Christmas stockings come first- filled by all the members of the family adding something.

Family prayer.

Breakfast of either ebleskivers- my husband’s family tradition or “Christmas Cinnamon-rolls” which in my family is a baking powder quick-rise roll. Either would be served with sausage and Orange Julius.

Present time. In my family growing up the youngest always got to open the first present and we worked our way up the line. As the oldest, I had to wait forever and as I got older my presents cost more so there was less of them. I didn’t like only opening a couple presents and sitting there forever, so I came up with a plan where we don’t put whose name the present is for on the package. Instead, we all take turns opening up the packages and guessing who they are for. It makes for a lot of laughter and fun and helps with the being too concerned about getting presents.

A late lunch with all the Christmas trimmings, a nap, playing card or board games with my family, munching on leftovers.

4) Elephants or penguins, and why? Elephants. I’m not sure why.

5) What is the scientific formula for a long and happy life? I haven’t figured it all out, but I think placing your trust in God, not worrying about things too much, and being content is definitely part of it.

6) If someone made a film of your life who would play you? Hm. . . Jennifer Garner?

7) What is your survival plan for the zombie apocalypse? My plan is to leave that plan to my husband who is always prepared for everything. Usually over-prepared.

8) Which bloggers do you most admire and why? Jodie Utter at Utter Imperfection. I’ve blogged about her blog before and it can be found here.

Katie Weigel at Lovely In The Dark. I’ve written about Katie’s blog before too. Find that post here.

For their strength in sharing their stories, for their desire to help others on a similar path and for their awesome personalities that shine through in everything they write.

9)  What is your superpower? I don’t give up. I want to desperately sometimes. Sometimes I have to let things go for a day or a season. But I will tenaciously hold on to my marriage, seek proper education for my children. I will get knocked down over and over again but I keep getting back up.

10) What is your favorite dad joke? I’m pretty sure I don’t have one?

11) The end of the world is coming and you have a secret bunker with unlimited supplies. Alongside your family, there is room for 5 people. Which twitter folk (because famous people all have their own bunkers) would you save and why? Room for 5 people who are celebrities? Um. . . I don’t pay a lot of attention to celebrities. I think instead I would want 5 people who knew how to survive or had special skill sets and artists in the form of writers, musicians, painters- because Art makes my heart sing.

  1. Hi, I always enjoy reading these tags. Inte Eating answer to the super power I am sure many of us experience the same. I would choose penguins #mixitup

  2. I love these kind of tags, and your Christmas Day sounds wonderful! In the next year or two I think we’re gonna have our first Christmas at home just us – the babies will only be 8 months this Christmas so it won’t be so memorable. I’m itching to start our own traditions!! Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week.

  3. Brilliant questions and answers! I know someone who really has catered for Prince Harry, he helped her carry some of the food in from her van and was lovely apparently. #TwinklyTuesday

  4. I love your answers especially the one about Prince Harry’s anniversary dinner! What a great question but a hard one to answer.

I did this award a few months back and thought it was a lot of fun.

    1. The answers for Prince Harry’s Anniversary dinner took me a while. I don’t usually think on that level of cuisine. All of it was stuff I make but putting it together in a coherent way took me a couple days.
