Silence Is My Friend

The holidays are over and the kids are back in school, my husband’s back at work. I come home after dropping my oldest off at school to an empty house. The sound of silence fills the air and frankly makes me a little giddy. As the oldest of a large family, I’ve always loved times when things are quiet, peaceful and I’m alone. For a short time, I had my own apartment with no roommates. I never had a problem feeling lonely. It just felt calm, and peaceful.
Not every mother has the opportunity to be a stay at home Mom, nor do they necessarily want to for that matter. I have been truly blessed for the last 10 years or so that I have been able to be that SAHM. Now that my kids are old enough to be in school, I enjoy the quiet that comes when everyone has left for school or work for the day. It rejuvenates me. It makes me a better Mother and Wife for when everyone comes home later. Summers can be difficult for me as I don’t get that quiet time where I can just sit and reflect while I’m folding clothes.
Silence has always been my friend. Not everyone feels that way, and that’s alright. Darkness has always comforted me as well because when it was dark outside, that’s when all my many siblings would quiet down and fall asleep and I would spend my time looking out the window at the beautiful twinkling stars in the night sky and live out adventures and stories in my head.

  1. Silence is amazing. I have been known to just sit and immerse myself in silence when the kids have gone to bid, actual bliss. Thanks for linking up! #BloggersBests

  2. I love silence. The last 5 min before they actually leave for school are the hardest to endure. ‘What is taking so long?’ I think to myself while I yell “you’re gonna be late!” and push them out the door… lol

    1. Yes! My son was uncooperative one day this week and flat out refused to get ready for school. I felt like crying, “No! You can’t.do this to me!” I was one day 2 of not being able to sleep and I was exhausted.

      1. I hear ya. On the days my husband works at his college instead of at home I’m particularly impatient to get my two minions out! Empty silent house all to myself.
