Where Have I Been?? COVID Burnout

This blog has been silent most of the summer. I wish I could say it was because of something wonderful and awesome. Instead, I’m admitting to COVID burnout.

I took the month of July of school with lots of plans to get SO much done. Write most of my blog posts to last until Christmas break, write my personal statement for Grad school, finish researching Grad schools, cleaning my house top to bottom and doing fun things with my kids. Instead, an inordinate amount of books were read. My son and I were at the library every few days for more. (Our library is currently partially open. You have to reserve the books online and make a reservation to be picked up on a table outside.) I really didn’t get much more than that done COVID burnout won. But there were some great books!

Writing and so many other things I enjoy take creative energy. I’ve reached the stage in our COVID world where that creative energy is just not there. I’m not sure what feeds creative energy. I need to discover what that fountain that feeds creativity is for me. Maybe with the kids back at school now that will help. (We are back in school in person.) School for me has started back and I’m getting into more of a routine that I haven’t really had since March. Have I mentioned that I hate routines?? But I’ve found that they are best for me, but every once in a while I have to throw them over and say to hell with routine.

I just want to encourage you to continue to find something that matters to you. Something that makes you get out of bed in the mornings because right now- COVID has made our lives different and strange. It’s easy to say I give up. I’m done. When you start feeling this way, reach out. 2020 has been a mess. All of us are feeling this way to varying levels. Ban together with someone and lift each other up. Check in on each other. Together we’ll make it through the remaining months of 2020 and continue praying that 2021 brings relief.
