It’s Cold And Yucky Out: What Can You Do With Kids?

We lived for 7 years in Alaska. Our kids were ages three and one and a half when we moved there. It was cold and dark during those winters and that first year we were in a very small apartment. What to do when you’re stuck inside with two small children?

Daddy comes to the rescue. Small water guns you can find at a dollar store, a paper target and an Army rucksack to hide behind were all he needed. At first, it started as target practice, then full blown water fights. Water fights broke out all the time for the first couple of years. I was on constant alert because Daddy was training his soldiers well.

The joy, laughter, and memories of those times come back to greet me as  I’m flipping through old pictures. When did we stop having those water fights? Why did we stop having those water fights? Why don’t we start them again???

It’s dark and cold out right now. Maybe you don’t want to train soldiers with water guns, but try thinking outside the box this winter.

Bubble

Have you ever blown bubbles when it’s freezing outside? The bubbles don’t pop. They become little globes that land on the ground. Add some food coloring and you have colored ice globes.

Build a fort with blankets and have story time inside, heck, have nap time inside the fort today.

What other outside the box things you can think of? I bet you can think of a lot and make some new memories.
